Against the backdrop of their 75th diplomatic anniversary, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen met in Beijing on Monday, agreeing to deepen ties across politics, business and sustainability.
Wang Yi highlighted Denmark’s early recognition of the People’s Republic of China and underscored the importance of mutual respect and equality. He called for enhanced high-level exchanges to build political trust and a shared vision for a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Both ministers agreed to put green development at the forefront, tapping their countries’ strengths in renewable energy and innovation. Data shows that China leads the world in solar and wind capacity, while Denmark boasts cutting-edge offshore wind technology—creating a natural synergy for joint projects.
On trade and investment, Wang Yi welcomed more Danish enterprises to the Chinese mainland market and emphasized China’s plan for expanded opening-up, which aims to boost foreign-funded business by improving transparency and fairness.
Rasmussen reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to the one-China policy and voiced an open attitude toward Chinese investment at home. He also stressed that Danish businesses are eager to make long-term bets on the Chinese mainland market.
Looking beyond bilateral ties, both sides pledged to champion multilateral institutions like the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. With Denmark taking the EU presidency later this year and China serving on the UN Security Council, they see a chance to coordinate on global challenges—from defending free trade to addressing the Ukraine crisis.
Finally, the ministers agreed to scale up people-to-people and cultural exchanges. A recent survey found that tourism between the two nations rose by 8% last year, a trend they aim to accelerate through student programs, arts festivals and green travel initiatives.
As the two countries build on three centuries of friendly ties, their new commitments signal a renewed chapter in a relationship driven by sustainability, shared values and a belief in cooperation over isolation.
