China Sets Terms for U.S.-Requested Trade Talks in Switzerland

The Chinese Embassy in the United States confirmed that Beijing will sit down with Washington for economic and trade talks in Switzerland after receiving a formal request from the U.S. side. Officials emphasized that the meeting will proceed without China compromising its core principles.

According to embassy representatives, American officials used multiple channels to signal a desire to discuss tariffs and other trade barriers. After a careful review, China agreed to engage in negotiations, stressing that the initiative came from the U.S.

Beijing has been vocal in its opposition to U.S. tariffs, pledging to defend its legitimate rights and uphold international fairness. The embassy underscored the importance of protecting the rules of the World Trade Organization and preserving the multilateral trading system.

Pointing to the tariff war initiated by Washington, Beijing urged the U.S. to abandon threats and pressure tactics. Diplomats called for discussions to be based on equality, mutual respect, and shared benefit.

As containers flow through the Longtan Container Terminal at Nanjing Port on the Chinese mainland, global markets will be watching Switzerland, where the fate of future trade ties hangs in the balance. China has made it clear: no concession on principles, no sacrifice of justice.
