In a landmark moment for luxury travel, Alila Zhuhai Dong’ao Island Resort officially opened on March 15, marking the debut of the Chinese mainland's only Alila hotel perched on a dramatic island cliff.
Spanning approximately 30,000 square meters atop the southern tip of Dong’ao Island, the resort preserves the rugged cliffside character. Its roof structure mimics the rise and fall of ocean waves, while sweeping architectural curves echo the varied rock formations below, creating a striking "crashing waves" panorama against the South China Sea backdrop.
A collaboration between Gree Group, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, global architectural firm ZNA|泽碧克 and Horizontal Line Design Company, this project represents the Alila brand’s first international luxury island resort in the Chinese mainland and the third Alila property in Greater China.
Kang Hong, Party Secretary and Chairman of Gree Group, says: "We have now built a cohesive chain of distinctive, complementary luxury properties that precisely meet the needs of premium travelers."
Li Juan, Deputy Secretary of the Wanshan District Party Committee and Director of its Administrative Committee, adds: "The introduction of a high-end hotel brand will transform our district’s ecological and cultural assets into driving forces for tourism development, accelerating the shift from a 'resource island' to a 'value island.'"
Yu Deli, President of Hyatt Hotels Corporation Asia Pacific, notes: "By blending local culture with unique services and activities, we aim to attract high-spending guests, extend stays, enrich the cultural tourism offering and enhance the island’s competitive edge."
For young global citizens, business and tech enthusiasts, and travelers seeking immersive experiences, Alila Zhuhai Dong’ao Island Resort sets a new benchmark for sustainable, design-driven island getaways in the region.
