China’s film industry has achieved a remarkable milestone in 2025, with the total box office revenue, including real-time presales, exceeding 10 billion yuan (nearly $1.4 billion). This impressive feat has positioned China as the leading box office market globally, marking a significant achievement for the country’s cinematic landscape.
During the 2025 Spring Festival holiday, China's box office revenue reached 9 billion yuan by Tuesday noon, setting a new record for the same period in the nation's film industry history, according to data from the China Film Administration.
Since January 29, the daily box office has surpassed 1 billion yuan for six consecutive days. This surge coincided with the release of six films specifically targeting the holiday season, spanning genres such as mythology, comedy, and action.
All top-performing films were domestic productions, reflecting the strong support for homegrown cinema. Additionally, the number of moviegoers reached an all-time high, underscoring the growing popularity and robust demand for films within China.
