China is stepping up its efforts to combat cross-border telecom fraud in Southeast Asia, urging Thailand and Myanmar to implement stronger measures and ensure that criminals face consequences. During separate meetings on Wednesday, Liu Jinsong, director general of the Department of Asian Affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, met with Thailand's Ambassador to China, Chatchai Viriyavejakul, and Myanmar's Ambassador, Tin Maung Swe. In these discussions, Liu emphasized the urgent need for collaborative action to dismantle the networks behind telecom fraud and protect vulnerable individuals from falling victim to these schemes.
\"Thailand and Myanmar must prioritize combating these offenses with vigor, safeguarding the lives and property of people,\" Liu stated. \"We must ensure that no criminal goes unpunished.\"
