Canada Keeps All Options Open in Response to Trump’s Tariff Threat

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly has stated that the Canadian government is not ruling out any countermeasures in response to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's tariff threat.

In a recent interview with CTV, Joly conveyed that \"everything is on the table,\" specifically addressing whether Canada would cut off energy exports to the United States amidst these threats.

Joly emphasized that she, along with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc, will convene with provincial premiers to strategize Canada's response. This coordinated effort aims to present a unified front to Republican lawmakers and key U.S. decision-makers during her upcoming visit to Washington.

The foreign minister appealed to Canadian political leaders to unite, stating, \"this is not time for division. This is not time for weakness. This is a time of strength and unity.\"

Joly added, \"I will be leading, along with Dominic LeBlanc, our reaction to what the Americans will be doing.\"

Local reports indicate that Canada is preparing a list of American goods that could be targeted with retaliatory tariffs if Trump follows through with his vow to impose 25 percent tariffs on all Canadian imports.
