China Unveils New Customs Measures to Propel Central Region’s Growth

China's General Administration of Customs (GAC) has announced 16 strategic measures aimed at invigorating the nation's central region. A key highlight of these initiatives is the expansion of Ezhou Huahu Airport in Hubei Province, the country's first cargo-focused airport.

Since beginning international operations in April 2023, Ezhou Huahu Airport has rapidly grown, now handling 18 international routes alongside 50 domestic ones. Last June, the airport achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 100,000 tonnes in accumulated international throughput.

The airport boasts a 750,000-square-meter cargo transfer center equipped with 52 kilometers of parcel sorting lines, underscoring its capacity to facilitate large-scale logistics operations. In June of last year, a new air cargo route connecting Ezhou Huahu Airport with Budapest was launched, primarily serving parcel express and e-commerce goods. This direct connection is set to enhance air logistics between China and Europe, fostering stronger economic exchanges.

The newly introduced customs measures also focus on optimizing railway fast clearance processes, supporting cross-border e-commerce, and establishing demonstration areas for relocated processing trade industries. These initiatives are designed to streamline operations, encourage trade growth, and position the central region as a pivotal hub in global commerce.
