Port City Colombo’s New Marina to Elevate Sri Lanka’s Regional Appeal

Sri Lanka is gearing up to become a premier destination for regional tourism and investment with the construction of a new marina in Port City Colombo, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath announced.

At a groundbreaking ceremony held on Friday, Herath emphasized that the port city serves as a crucial platform for attracting foreign investment and enhancing Sri Lanka's international presence. The marina development is poised to address the existing gap in high-end maritime services in South Asia, aiming to draw more high-net-worth tourists to the island nation.

The initiative is also set to strengthen cultural and economic ties between Sri Lanka and China, aligning with the country's tourism revenue targets, Herath noted.

Harsha Amarasekera, chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, highlighted that the project will inject new vitality into Sri Lanka's economy by creating employment opportunities and attracting international high-end brands. This move is expected to significantly contribute to the nation's economic recovery.

The marina commercial project spans approximately 20,400 square meters with a construction area of around 49,000 square meters, marking a substantial investment in Sri Lanka's infrastructure and economic growth.
