Beware of ‘High-Paying’ Job Scams: Chinese Embassy Alerts Citizens in Thailand

The Chinese Embassy in Thailand has issued a cautionary statement to Chinese citizens traveling to Thailand, warning them against falling for \"high-paying recruitment\" scams. The embassy emphasized the importance of being cautious of enticing offers such as \"high-paying jobs\" and \"free air tickets and accommodation\" to prevent deception.

Recently, the embassy confirmed the safe return of Wang Xing, a Chinese actor who had been a victim of human trafficking. Wang arrived in Thailand on January 3, 2025, under a job offer but lost contact near the Thailand-Myanmar border. Thanks to collaborative efforts between Thai and Chinese authorities, Wang was rescued from rural Myanmar and safely returned to China on Friday night.

A senior Thai official, Inspector General Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, detailed the rescue operation, explaining that Wang was deceived by fraudulent recruiters shortly after his arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. Utilizing technical measures, Thai police tracked his movements and overcame challenges posed by changes in vehicles and personnel to locate and rescue him.

This incident has heightened awareness about the dangers of human trafficking and scam syndicates targeting travelers. The Thai authorities reaffirmed their commitment to cross-border cooperation and prevention, including educating travelers about the risks associated with fraudulent job offers when journeying through Thailand to other countries.

The Chinese Embassy extends gratitude to the Thai government for prioritizing Wang's case and ensuring his safe repatriation. Both nations have expressed growing public concern over such incidents, underlining the need for vigilance among travelers.
