The Chinese mainland unveiled the results of its fifth national economic census on Thursday, highlighting significant growth and stability in the nation's economy over the past five years. According to Kang Yi, head of the National Bureau of Statistics, there has been a notable increase in both the number of businesses and employment within the secondary and tertiary industries.
By the end of 2023, the Chinese mainland had 33.27 million legal units engaged in these key sectors, marking a 52.7% increase since 2018. Employment in secondary and tertiary industries also saw substantial growth, with the workforce expanding by 11.9% to reach 428.98 million people.
Additionally, the census revealed that nearly 88 million self-employed units are contributing to the economy, employing a total of 179.56 million individuals. These figures underscore the resilience and dynamic expansion of the Chinese mainland's economic landscape.
