China's digital economy has achieved a remarkable milestone in 2023, generating a staggering $6.7 trillion in revenue. According to the fifth national economic census, the core digital sectors employed 36.16 million individuals by the end of the year.
The digital landscape in China is vast, with 2.92 million corporate enterprises operating within the core industries of the digital economy. These industries encompass a wide range of activities, including the provision of digital technologies, products, services, infrastructure, and solutions essential for digital development.
Breaking down the numbers, 262,000 enterprises were dedicated to digital product manufacturing, while 274,000 focused on digital product services. The digital technology application sector was the largest, with 1.43 million enterprises, followed by industries driven by digital factors with 950,000 enterprises.
Employment within these sectors is equally impressive. Digital technology application firms led the way with 14.61 million employees, making up the largest proportion of the workforce in the core digital industries. Digital product manufacturing firms employed 13.37 million people, industries driven by digital factors had 6.66 million, and digital product services companies accounted for 1.52 million jobs.
In terms of revenue, digital product manufacturing enterprises topped the list with 20.48 trillion yuan. Digital technology application firms followed with 14.04 trillion yuan, industries driven by digital factors contributed 9.74 trillion yuan, and the digital product services sector generated 4.18 trillion yuan.
This substantial growth underscores China's pivotal role in the global digital economy, highlighting the country's commitment to innovation and technological advancement.
