The China-U.S. economic working group convened for its seventh meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, according to a statement released by China's Ministry of Finance (MOF) on Monday.
The high-level meeting was co-chaired by China's Vice Minister of Finance, Liao Min, and U.S. Under Secretary of the Treasury, Jay Shambaugh.
Discussions were candid, in-depth, and constructive, focusing on key issues such as the macroeconomic landscapes and policies in both nations, collaborative efforts to support low-income countries in overcoming liquidity challenges, and the governance and reform of multilateral development banks.
The Chinese delegation took the opportunity to clarify its stance on pertinent economic and trade matters, while also voicing concerns over recent U.S. trade and economic restrictions targeting the Chinese mainland, according to the MOF statement.
