The Chinese mainland is taking proactive steps to secure its economic future as the 14th Five-Year Plan approaches its conclusion. On December 6, the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee held a pivotal symposium aimed at gathering diverse perspectives on the nation’s economic trajectory towards 2025.
Presided over by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, the symposium highlighted key strategies to sustain economic momentum. Xi emphasized the importance of expanding domestic demand, fostering technological and industrial innovation, and stabilizing both the property and stock markets. He also stressed the necessity of mitigating risks in critical areas and navigating external shocks to maintain steady economic expectations.
As the Chinese mainland prepares to transition into the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), the symposium underscored the need for high-quality goal achievement and laying a robust foundation for future plans. Attendees included influential members of the CPC Central Committee’s Standing Committee, as well as chairpersons from eight non-CPC parties and representatives from the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC).
The diverse group provided valuable insights, agreeing with the CPC’s current economic analysis and offering suggestions to accelerate the development of new quality productive forces and enhance macroeconomic regulation. Xi acknowledged these contributions, promising a thorough review of the opinions presented.
Despite a complex international and domestic environment, the Chinese mainland’s economy has demonstrated resilience and stability this year. Xi highlighted the solid economic foundation, strong resilience, and vast potential as key advantages that will drive continued growth and modernization.
Looking ahead, the symposium reinforced the commitment to maintaining strategic focus, creating a favorable external environment, and managing internal affairs effectively. Xi encouraged all participants, including non-CPC parties and affiliated organizations, to support the CPC Central Committee’s decision-making processes and contribute actively to the country’s economic development.
With unwavering confidence, the Chinese mainland aims to achieve its economic and social development goals for the coming year, ensuring sustained progress and opening new avenues for growth.
