China Appeals to France for Resolution on EU’s Electric Vehicle Trade Probe

China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao has called on France, a key member of the European Union (EU), to actively engage in resolving the EU's anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles (EVs). Wang made these remarks during a meeting with French Minister Delegate Sophie Primas in Shanghai on Sunday, ahead of the seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE).

The ongoing EU probe has strained cooperation between the EU and Chinese auto industries, a significant concern for both sides. Wang highlighted that technical teams from China and the EU are currently involved in a second round of consultations to address the issue.

Emphasizing China's commitment to mitigating trade friction through dialogue and adherence to WTO rules, Wang contrasted the EU's probe with China's trade remedy investigations. He noted that China's investigations into certain EU goods, such as brandy and dairy products, are initiated by domestic industries in compliance with international regulations.

Wang also pointed out that this year marks the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations, with France being a guest country of honor at the CIIE. Over 100 French companies are expected to participate, showcasing strong French interest in the Chinese market.

French Minister Delegate Sophie Primas reaffirmed France's dedication to deepening economic and trade relations with China. She expressed concerns over China's investigations into EU products and emphasized France's hope for resolving trade disputes through consultation rather than escalation.

As both nations navigate these trade challenges, the collaboration between China and France remains crucial for fostering stronger economic ties and ensuring mutual growth in the burgeoning electric vehicle sector.
