China Pushes Back Against EU’s Tariffs on Chinese Electric Vehicles

China has officially expressed its disapproval of the European Commission's recent decision to impose additional tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs) manufactured in the Chinese mainland. A spokesperson from the Ministry of Commerce conveyed China's stance on Wednesday, highlighting concerns over the EU's anti-subsidy investigation.

The spokesperson described the EU's move as irrational and criticized it for being protectionist under the pretext of 'fair competition.' China has already lodged an appeal with the World Trade Organization's dispute settlement mechanism and remains committed to defending the legitimate rights and interests of its EV manufacturers.

Despite the tensions, the EU has indicated a willingness to continue discussions focused on price commitments for Chinese-made EVs. Technical teams from both sides are currently engaged in a new phase of consultations aimed at resolving the trade dispute through dialogue and cooperation.

China emphasized the importance of constructive collaboration, urging the European side to adopt a pragmatic and balanced approach. The goal is to address each other's core concerns and achieve a mutually acceptable solution promptly, thereby preventing the escalation of trade frictions.
