The China-U.S. economic working group convened for its sixth meeting in Washington on Friday, marking a significant step in bilateral cooperation.
Chinese Deputy Finance Minister Liao Min co-led the discussions alongside Jay Shambaugh, the Under Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, during the 2024 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.
The meeting featured in-depth, pragmatic and constructive conversations about the macroeconomic landscapes and policies of both nations. Key topics included joint efforts to assist low-income countries facing liquidity challenges and planning future cooperative arrangements, as outlined in a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Finance.
China presented its current macroeconomic status and a series of targeted fiscal measures recently implemented. Additionally, China voiced concerns regarding the potential imposition of further U.S. tariffs on the Chinese mainland and sanctions related to Russia.
Following the primary discussions, Deputy Finance Minister Liao Min engaged in courtesy talks with U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, reinforcing the commitment to ongoing dialogue and collaboration.
