China Invites EU to Negotiate EV Tariffs, Seeking Resolution

In a move to ease ongoing trade tensions, China has formally invited a European technical team to visit for face-to-face consultations on the European Union's tariffs on imported Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

He Yadong, a spokesperson for the ministry, announced on Thursday that all necessary preparations for the visit have been completed and China is now awaiting a response from the European side. This invitation comes after the European Commission voted to impose punitive tariffs on Chinese EVs on October 4, sparking a series of negotiations between the two economic powerhouses.

The spokesperson emphasized that China has demonstrated maximum sincerity and flexibility in these consultations, highlighting that both sides have made significant progress in certain areas. However, He Yadong also noted that major differences remain, primarily because the EU has not actively addressed issues that are of core concern to both Chinese and European industries.

Since September 20, Chinese and European technical teams have engaged in eight rounds of consultations held in Brussels over more than 20 days. Despite the challenges, these talks aim to find a balanced solution that supports the growth and sustainability of the EV market on both continents.

As the global demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, the outcome of these negotiations could have significant implications for the auto industry, trade relations, and the advancement of green technologies worldwide.
