China’s Railways Brace for Massive Return Trip Surge as Golden Week Concludes

As China's week-long National Day holiday winds down, the country's railway system is gearing up for a significant increase in return trips. On Sunday alone, an impressive 18.73 million train journeys are anticipated, with over 1,400 additional trains set to accommodate the rising travel demand, according to the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.

The railway network has been experiencing a consistent peak in return travel, particularly with a notable uptick in long-distance journeys. For six consecutive days since the holiday rush began, daily passenger numbers have exceeded 17 million, highlighting the sustained high demand during this festive period.

By 9 a.m. on Sunday, a staggering 155 million tickets had been sold through China's official railway ticket-booking platforms, 12306.cn and its mobile app, marking a record during the \"Golden Week\" travel season.

To ensure a smooth and safe travel experience, railway authorities nationwide have introduced extra trains on the most popular routes and increased overall capacity. Additionally, local stations have enhanced their services by optimizing entry and exit processes, facilitating the orderly return of passengers.

Looking ahead, China's railway network is projected to handle a total of 175 million passenger trips throughout the 10-day National Day holiday period from September 29 to October 8.
