Jiangsu Leads the Way in Silver Economy Amid Growing Elderly Population

Jiangsu Province in East China has unveiled a comprehensive plan to promote the high-quality development of its silver economy in response to a rapidly aging population.

With nearly 21 million residents aged 60 and above by the end of 2023, Jiangsu stands as one of the provinces with the highest proportion of older adults in the Chinese mainland, presenting vast consumption potential.

The silver economy encompasses a wide range of economic activities, including the provision of products and services tailored for the elderly.

By 2027, Jiangsu aims to establish a robust industrial system for the silver economy, featuring over 10 specialized industrial parks and the addition of around 20 major enterprises. These companies will leverage specialized and sophisticated technologies to produce novel and unique products, as outlined by the provincial government.

As a renowned manufacturing hub, Jiangsu is well-positioned to drive senior-oriented industrial development. The plan focuses on 10 key areas, including the production of elderly care products and rehabilitation aids, the provision of smart healthcare services, and the supply of home modifications necessary for the aging population.

Additionally, the province encourages the development of senior-friendly vehicles, wearable rehabilitation robots, and robots designed for emotional companionship and safety inspections. The plan also emphasizes the application of gene technology in anti-aging efforts.
