In a move signaling a collaborative approach, China and the European Union (EU) engaged in a comprehensive and constructive consultation on Thursday to address ongoing disputes over tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs).
Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with European Commission Executive Vice President and Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, with both parties emphasizing their commitment to resolving disagreements through open dialogue and negotiations.
The talks focused on the EU's anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese EVs, which the Chinese Ministry of Commerce described as \"non-compliant, unreasonable and unfair.\" Despite disagreements, the Chinese side has shown unwavering sincerity in seeking a resolution through friendly consultation.
Both sides agreed to continue pushing forward on negotiations related to price commitments, aiming to find a mutually acceptable solution. The Chinese EV industry has already proposed a price commitment solution during the investigation and has further refined it based on feedback from the EU, demonstrating flexibility and dedication to resolving the matter.
The EU initiated its anti-subsidy investigation without a formal complaint from its own industries, highlighting the importance of addressing trade imbalances in the rapidly growing EV market.
