Chinese Mainland Reinstates Tariffs on 34 Agricultural Imports from Taiwan Region

The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council has announced that the policy of exempting import duties on 34 agricultural products, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and seafood originating from the Taiwan region, will be suspended starting September 25.

From the specified date, the relevant import tariffs on these agricultural products will be applied in accordance with current regulations. This change marks a significant shift in cross-Strait trade dynamics.

According to China Media Group, authorities in the Taiwan region have unilaterally imposed discriminatory bans and restrictions on exports of mainland products. These measures have severely hindered economic and trade cooperation between the two sides.

The reinstatement of tariffs is expected to impact various sectors reliant on these agricultural imports, prompting discussions among business and trade enthusiasts about the future of cross-Strait economic relations.
