China’s Summer Travel Season Soars with Record Passenger Numbers

This summer, the Chinese mainland witnessed a vibrant surge in cultural and tourism activities, marking a significant boost in the travel sector. According to data released by officials and industry research, the 62-day summer travel season concluded on Saturday with impressive figures.

Booming Tourism

From July 1 to August 31, railways handled a record-breaking 887 million passenger trips, reflecting a 6.7 percent increase compared to last year, as reported by the China State Railway Group on Sunday. This surge highlights the growing preference for rail travel among tourists exploring the diverse cultural landscapes of the mainland.

Air travel also saw remarkable growth, with airlines carrying over 140 million passenger trips during the same period. This represents a 12.4 percent year-on-year increase, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China. The rise in airline passengers underscores the mainland's appeal as a top destination for both domestic and international travelers seeking enriching experiences.
