China's self-developed large passenger aircraft, the C919, has achieved a significant milestone by transporting over 500,000 passengers as of Sunday.
Since initiating commercial operations on May 28, 2023, the C919 has amassed over 10,000 flight hours and completed more than 3,700 commercial flights. This achievement underscores the aircraft's growing importance in China's aviation sector.
The journey began with the delivery of the first C919 to China Eastern Airlines on December 9, 2022. Today, China Eastern Airlines operates a fleet of seven C919 aircraft, servicing five regular routes that link major cities including Shanghai, Chengdu, Beijing, Xi'an, and Guangzhou.
On August 28, Air China and China Southern Airlines expanded the C919's reach by receiving their inaugural aircraft in Shanghai, marking a pivotal moment in the multi-operator deployment of China's homegrown airliner.
\"I'm very fortunate to have grown up with our homegrown C919. It's a great aircraft, loved by both pilots and passengers,\" said Jing Yucheng, one of the first pilots to fly the C919 for China Eastern Airlines.
