China continues to assert its dominance in the global trade arena, maintaining the top spot in trade in goods for the seventh consecutive year. According to the General Administration of Customs, the nation has established itself as a key trading partner with over 150 countries and regions worldwide.
In 2023, China's foreign trade surged by more than 17 trillion yuan ($2.34 trillion) compared to 2012, marking an impressive average annual growth of 1.6 trillion yuan. Zhao Zenglian, deputy chief of the General Administration of Customs, highlighted during a press conference on Tuesday that the number of foreign trade enterprises has nearly doubled over the past decade, signaling robust economic expansion.
The structure of China's foreign trade is evolving, with a significant shift towards high-tech products. In 2023, exports of high-tech goods increased by six percent year-on-year, now comprising 18.7 percent of the total export value. Zhao emphasized that this growth reflects China's commitment to high-quality development and its strategic focus on innovation and advanced industries.
As China continues to enhance its trade relationships and diversify its export portfolio, the country's role in the global economy remains pivotal, driving progress and fostering international partnerships across various sectors.
