China's Commerce Ministry has strongly refuted recent statements by a European Union (EU) official suggesting that China delayed consultations on electric vehicle (EV) tariffs. The ministry described these remarks as \"seriously inconsistent with the facts.\"
In response to the EU's anti-subsidy probe into Chinese EVs launched in October 2023, China has consistently opposed the measures during bilateral and multilateral engagements. A spokesperson for the ministry highlighted ongoing bilateral exchanges, including face-to-face meetings and official correspondence between top leaders and ministers over the past months.
\"China has demonstrated its utmost sincerity,\" the spokesperson stated, emphasizing the country's hope for the EU to reciprocate by advancing the consultation process. The goal is to reach a mutually acceptable solution promptly.
China expressed firm belief that trade protectionist measures undermine the growth of global green industries and hinder cooperation in the automotive sector. The spokesperson called for all nations to collaborate in promoting the green transformation of the global economy.
Furthermore, China vehemently opposes any unilateralist and protectionist actions that politicize or weaponize trade issues. The spokesperson warned that China will take all necessary measures to protect its interests in response to any actions that misuse trade rules to suppress the country.
