Global Agricultural Cooperation Conference Kicks Off in Beijing

Beijing is abuzz with international dialogue as the 2024 China Agricultural Conference for International Economic and Trade Cooperation opened its doors on June 25. Centered on green intelligence and strengthening global supply chains, the conference has drawn over 300 participants from around the world, including diplomats, representatives from international organizations, business associations, local councils, and corporate leaders.

Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman of the China Chamber of International Commerce, emphasized during the opening ceremony that the Chinese business community is committed to addressing global food security challenges. By sharing development opportunities, they aim to bolster the resilience of the international agricultural supply chain.

Zhang Zhongjun, the acting FAO representative in China, highlighted the organization's dedication to collaborating with all stakeholders to support China's rural areas. He stressed the importance of sharing China's experiences and promoting green agricultural development to transform modern agricultural and food systems.

Hussam Al Husseini, Ambassador of Jordan to China, delivered a compelling keynote speech. He underscored the urgency of coordinated action in the face of global issues like food security and climate change. Reflecting on the strategic partnership established in 2015, he noted the deepening economic and trade cooperation between Jordan and China in the agricultural sector.

China's agricultural sector has made significant strides in green transformation. According to a report by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the China Agricultural Green Development Research Society, in 2022 alone, China modernized 505 large and medium-sized irrigation districts and restored 2.25 million hectares of irrigation areas. These efforts have substantially enhanced the production capacity of grain and other key agricultural products. Additionally, by the end of 2022, China established 102 bases for organic agricultural products and 748 standardized production bases for green food raw materials, covering a total area of over 168 million mu.
