China Calls on EU to Halt Sanctions on Chinese Firms Over Russia Links

The Chinese mainland's Commerce Ministry expressed strong dissatisfaction on Wednesday regarding the European Union's inclusion of Chinese firms in its 14th sanctions package against Russia.

\"China urges the EU side to bear in mind the overall interests of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership and unconditionally stop listing Chinese companies,\" the ministry stated. It emphasized its commitment to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese firms.

The ministry criticized the EU's actions as unilateral sanctions and \"long-arm jurisdiction\" lacking basis in international law and without mandate from the UN Security Council.

\"Such move goes against the spirit of the consensus reached by the leaders of China and the EU and has a negative impact on China-EU economic and trade relations,\" the statement added.
