The European Union (EU) is to blame for escalating trade frictions, raising concerns of a potential \"trade war,\" according to China's Ministry of Commerce on Friday.
In a statement, the ministry asserted, \"The responsibility lies solely with the EU side,\" addressing worries from European officials about the intensifying trade disputes.
China emphasized its desire to avoid ongoing trade tensions with the EU, pointing out that the European side has \"regrettably\" continued to provoke trade disagreements.
Since the beginning of this year, the EU has imposed 31 restrictive trade and investment measures against China, including 25 trade remedies. These actions, the ministry stated, have seriously undermined economic and trade cooperation between China and the EU.
Despite these challenges, China has maintained an open and cooperative stance, actively seeking to resolve issues through dialogue and consultation, according to the ministry.
The ministry highlighted that China has consistently adhered to World Trade Organization rules and has employed trade remedy measures with prudence and restraint.
Facing what it describes as EU protectionism, China remains determined to protect its legitimate and lawful interests. The ministry expressed hope that the EU will address differences through dialogue to prevent trade frictions from escalating or spiraling out of control.
