Toyota Extends Production Halt of Three Scandal-Hit Models Until July

Toyota has decided to continue the production halt for three vehicle models affected by testing irregularities until July or later. The models in question are the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio, and Yaris Cross.

The Japanese automaker extended the suspension beyond the original deadline of June 28 as its internal investigation and a probe by the Land Ministry are still ongoing. While Toyota has not yet determined when production will resume, the halt is expected to remain in place at least until July 31.

This decision follows revelations earlier this month that Toyota falsified performance tests to secure government certifications for its vehicles. In response to an order from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Toyota halted production of the affected models at its factories in Miyagi and Iwate prefectures.

The suspension was part of a broader crackdown after the ministry disclosed that five major Japanese automakers—including Toyota, Honda Motor, Mazda, Yamaha Motor, and Suzuki Motor—were involved in illegal practices during their mass production certification applications. Transport ministry officials have already conducted on-site inspections at facilities belonging to Toyota, Mazda, Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki in response to the misconduct.
