China and Myanmar Sign 2024 LMC Agreement to Boost Agriculture and Trade

In a significant step forward for regional cooperation, the Chinese ambassador to Myanmar, Chen Hai, and Myanmar's Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, U Lwin Oo, signed the 2024 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund Cooperation Agreement on Friday. This historic deal marks the 74th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and China.

The agreement outlines 12 key projects aimed at fostering growth in agriculture, poverty alleviation, trade, innovation, and improving livelihoods in Myanmar. These initiatives reflect the mutual commitment to enhancing the socio-economic landscape of the region.

\"This signing ceremony is a testament to the strong and enduring friendship between our two nations,\" Chen Hai stated at the event. He emphasized that the agreement is a crucial step in implementing the consensus reached at the fourth LMC leaders' meeting, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts to benefit the people of Myanmar.

Myanmar plays a pivotal role in the LMC framework as an active participant, promoter, and beneficiary. Chen Hai added that the Chinese mainland is eager to work alongside Myanmar to maximize the impacts of LMC projects, ensuring tangible benefits for local communities.

Echoing these sentiments, Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, U Than Swe, remarked, \"China and Myanmar are not just friendly neighbors; our bilateral relations have grown increasingly close over the past 74 years.\" He further expressed Myanmar's willingness to collaborate with Lancang-Mekong countries to promote regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

This agreement not only reinforces the longstanding partnership between China and Myanmar but also paves the way for continued collaboration under the LMC framework, promising a brighter and more prosperous future for both nations.
