Pakistani Cherries Make Sweet Debut in China’s Largest Market

In a flavorful leap, Pakistan has launched its first shipment of fresh cherries to China, the world’s largest cherry market. Utilizing a state-of-the-art reefer container, Pakistan plans to export 260 tonnes of cherries by the end of June, marking a significant milestone for the fruit industry.

This achievement stems from a phytosanitary agreement signed between China and Pakistan in 2022, which opened the doors for Pakistani fresh cherries to enter the Chinese market. Farmers in Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan region are celebrating this breakthrough, optimistic that access to China will boost the local economy and create new opportunities.

The successful dispatch of this consignment is a promising step forward, showcasing the potential for increased trade and collaboration between the two nations. As Pakistani cherries make their way to Chinese consumers, the partnership is set to enhance competition and offer fresh options in one of the world's most dynamic fruit markets.
