China’s Auto Association Slams US Protectionism in Electric Vehicle Sector

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) has strongly criticized the United States for its protectionist stance towards China's new energy vehicle (NEV) industry. CAAM's executive vice president and secretary-general, Fu Bingfeng, labeled the US concerns over overcapacity and national security as typical trade protectionism.

Amid reports of impending US tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, Fu emphasized that such isolationist measures are detrimental to the NEV sector's growth. He reaffirmed China's commitment to high-level openness, promising expanded market opportunities for global automotive companies.

Fu highlighted the importance of a global vision and an open mindset to foster the robust development of the automotive manufacturing industry. Recently, CAAM released vehicle data security assessments, confirming the compliance of 76 models from six companies, including BYD, Li Auto, Lotus, Hozon New Energy, Tesla, and NIO.

This assessment marks a new benchmark for smart vehicle advancement, ensuring equal treatment for both domestic and international players. Fu specifically mentioned Tesla, the only foreign-funded company in the assessment, praising its active participation and recognition of the Chinese market's autonomous driving trends.

As a self-regulatory, non-profit organization, CAAM comprises enterprises and institutions involved in complete vehicle production and related industries in China. The Beijing-based association is a permanent council member of the International Organization of Motor Vehicles Manufacturers, maintaining strong ties with global automotive industry bodies.
