Mainland China to Import Taiwan’s Premium Agri and Fishery Products

In a significant move fostering cross-strait economic ties, the General Administration of Customs (GAC) announced on Sunday the approval of importing wendan pomelo and other high-quality agriculture and fishery products from Taiwan. This approval is contingent upon meeting the mainland's stringent quarantine requirements, based on scientific assessments and in line with relevant laws and regulations.

Zhao Zenglian, deputy chief of the GAC, highlighted the administration's commitment to enhancing communication with the Kuomintang (KMT) party and Taiwan authorities. This collaboration aims to resume imports under the shared political framework of adhering to the 1992 Consensus and opposing any moves towards "Taiwan independence."

The announcement came during a meeting with a KMT delegation led by Fu Kun-chi, who expressed optimism about the successful marketing of Taiwan's diverse industries, particularly its premium agricultural and fishery products, in the mainland market.

Zhao emphasized the GAC's willingness to work closely with the KMT and Taiwan authorities to ensure that Taiwan's producers implement robust management practices at the source, alongside practical and feasible rectification measures. This partnership is expected to bolster the quality and reliability of the products entering the mainland.

Fu Kun-chi conveyed his hope that this initiative will pave the way for a broader range of Taiwan's high-quality products to thrive in the mainland market, strengthening the economic bonds between the two regions.
