China's green and low-carbon industries are undergoing a remarkable expansion, significantly contributing to the nation's economic growth. As of 2023, the country boasts 5,095 national-level green factories, 371 green industrial parks, and over 600 green supply chain management enterprises, reflecting a robust commitment to building a sustainable industrial system.
Innovation in green and low-carbon technologies has surged, with China leading the world in environmental technology patents. Between 2011 and 2020, nearly 60% of global patent applications for environment-related technologies were filed by Chinese entities, underscoring the nation's active role in environmental innovation.
The production of green and low-carbon products has also seen impressive growth. In 2023, the manufacturing of electric vehicles, solar cells, and lithium-ion batteries for automobiles increased by 30.3%, 54%, and 22.8% year-on-year, respectively. Additionally, the output of green energy products such as hydroelectric generators, wind turbines, and charging piles rose by 35.3%, 28.7%, and 36.9% year-on-year, surpassing the overall economic growth rate. These advancements have elevated the proportion of green and low-carbon industries within China's broader economy.
Since 2012, China has maintained an average annual economic growth rate of 6.6%, alongside a 3% yearly increase in energy consumption. This has resulted in a 26.4% reduction in energy consumption per unit of GDP, effectively saving 1.4 billion tonnes of standard coal and cutting emissions by 2.94 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide. These achievements position China as a global leader in reducing energy intensity and promoting sustainable economic development.
