The Chinese mainland has achieved a maritime first by completing its inaugural green methanol bunkering for a large container ship in Shanghai. This milestone marks a significant advancement in sustainable shipping practices.
The container vessel, owned by global shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk, operates entirely on green methanol, a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Vincent Clerc, CEO of A.P. Moller-Maersk, shared with CGTN that there are currently 250 methanol-powered ships either under construction or on order across Asia.
This development aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance environmental stewardship in the maritime industry. Green methanol bunkering not only lowers greenhouse gas emissions but also paves the way for a more sustainable future for large-scale shipping operations.
