China Initiates Fair Anti-Dumping Probe on EU Brandy Imports

The Chinese mainland has launched an anti-dumping investigation into brandy imported from the European Union (EU). This move follows a complaint from the domestic brandy industry and aims to ensure fair competition in the market.

China's Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, emphasized that the probe does not target any specific EU member state and will be conducted transparently in line with Chinese law and WTO regulations. \"We are committed to safeguarding the rights of all stakeholders,\" Wang stated during his meeting in Paris with French brandy trade associations and producers.

The investigation focuses on EU-produced brandy in containers holding less than 200 liters, covering imports from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023. The probe is expected to conclude by January 5, 2025, with a possible extension of six months under special circumstances.

Highlighting the strong ties between China and France, Wang noted that 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. He expressed optimism about expanding economic and trade cooperation, citing China's vast market and the designated promotion of consumption in 2024. \"We welcome French companies to actively participate in the Chinese market and seize the opportunities presented by China's ongoing development,\" he added.

The French brandy industry has shown willingness to collaborate with Chinese authorities, aiming to continue developing their presence in the Chinese market despite the ongoing investigation.
