China and U.S. Leaders Advocate Partnership for Mutual Growth

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in Beijing, emphasizing the importance of China and the United States acting as partners rather than adversaries.

Premier Li expressed hopes that the U.S. would adhere to fundamental market economy norms, including fair competition and open cooperation. He urged the U.S. to avoid transforming economic and trade issues into political or security matters, advocating for a market-oriented and global perspective on production capacity.

The discussions come as Yellen is on a visit to China, holding several talks with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in Guangzhou. Premier Li highlighted that the China-U.S. relationship is beginning to stabilize under the strategic guidance of both nations' leaders. He emphasized the need for mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.

As the world's two largest economies, China and the U.S. have deeply intertwined economic interests. Strengthening economic and trade cooperation is crucial for their development and the global economy's growth, said Premier Li. He stressed the importance of enhancing communication to manage and resolve differences, ensuring that economic collaboration remains stable, smooth, and efficient.

Furthermore, China expressed its willingness to coordinate policies with the U.S. on climate change and other global challenges. Premier Li noted that China's new energy industry is set to make significant contributions to the global green and low-carbon transition.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen acknowledged the stabilization of the U.S.-China relationship and underscored the importance of managing their bilateral economic relationship responsibly. She affirmed that the U.S. does not seek \"decoupling\" from China and is committed to working together to implement the consensus reached by the two presidents in San Francisco.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to deepening exchanges and cooperation, responsibly managing differences, and jointly addressing pressing global challenges to promote the steady development of bilateral relations and benefit enterprises and people in both countries.
