135th Canton Fair Kicks Off in Guangzhou with Record Participation and Innovation

The 135th China Import and Export Fair, widely known as the Canton Fair, is set to commence on April 15 and will run until May 5 in Guangzhou, the vibrant capital of Guangdong Province in southern China.

In a recent press conference hosted by the State Council Information Office, Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Wang Shouwen announced that this edition of the fair is poised to exceed previous spring sessions in several key areas. The event will feature an unprecedented number of registered enterprises, an influx of new participants, early registrations from overseas buyers, an expanded exhibition area, and more.

With approximately 28,600 enterprises slated to join the export fair across a sprawling 1.55 million square meters, the event welcomes over 4,300 first-time exhibitors to China's oldest trade fair, which has been a staple since its inception in 1957. Additionally, 680 enterprises will be part of the import fair. The fair has seen about 93,000 buyers from 215 countries and regions complete their pre-registrations, and more than 220 commercial and industrial organizations are expected to send delegations to Guangzhou.

Held twice annually, this spring session aims to highlight Chinaโ€™s advanced opening-up strategy through five key dimensions: heightened innovation from participating enterprises, significant digital advancements, elevated quality standards, reinforced supply chain stability, and the continuous scaling up of the event with enhanced services.

The fair will spotlight innovative enterprises and sustainable products with independent intellectual property, outpacing the previous edition. Around 3,600 enterprises will demonstrate their prowess in digital technologies, ranging from automated guided vehicles to AI-powered translating machines. An online platform will also be launched to complement the physical exhibition. Impressively, over 6,700 Chinese participants have contributed to establishing both domestic and international industry standards, ensuring the excellence of products showcased.

While consumer products have traditionally dominated the Canton Fair, there has been a notable increase in products aimed at stabilizing the global supply chain in recent years. China continues to bolster global cooperation, having welcomed 9.3 million overseas visitors since its first fair 67 years ago. A recent survey revealed that 94 percent of participants have successfully expanded their international markets through the fair.
