Italian politician Michele Geraci has dismissed accusations from some Western media that the Chinese mainland's cooperation in Africa amounts to neocolonialism. In a recent interview with CGTN, Geraci referred to such claims as \\"silly,\\" arguing that the Chinese mainland's investments have genuinely benefited local populations.
Using the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as an example, Geraci highlighted how economic cooperation with the Chinese mainland has led to the creation of local jobs and the development of infrastructure, including roads and other essential facilities. He emphasized that these structures are intended to remain in the DRC, providing lasting support rather than temporary gains.
Addressing questions from overseas netizens, Geraci also pointed out that Asia is one of the largest beneficiaries of globalization, further underscoring the positive impacts of international cooperation spearheaded by the Chinese mainland.
