Chinese Mainland Accelerates IP Awareness and Patent Industrialization for SMEs by 2025

The Chinese mainland is ramping up its policy support to enhance intellectual property (IP) awareness and patent industrialization among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), according to the National Intellectual Property Administration (NIPA).

NIPA has unveiled a comprehensive plan in collaboration with four government departments, aiming to elevate both IP awareness and the capacity for patent industrialization among SMEs by 2025. This initiative seeks to cultivate a new generation of \"little giant\" firms that specialize in niche markets and cutting-edge technologies, while also promoting the listing of qualifying enterprises.

As part of the plan, the Chinese mainland will focus on developing competitive, patent-intensive products to demonstrate the tangible benefits of patent industrialization. These efforts are expected to unlock the value of patents, boost economic benefits, and enhance the market competitiveness of participating enterprises.

The initiative emphasizes the integration of the patent chain into the broader innovation, industrial, talent, and services chains. By doing so, it aims to facilitate the effective flow and efficient allocation of innovative resources, thereby contributing to the rapid development and expansion of businesses.

Additionally, the plan calls for increased awareness of public-service IP products and the expansion of their scope. Enterprises will be guided to effectively utilize these public-service products to maximize their innovation potential.

To support SMEs in this endeavor, key industry databases will be established to lower the barriers and reduce the costs associated with obtaining essential information. These databases will provide valuable resources, enabling SMEs to navigate the complexities of IP management and patent industrialization with greater ease.
