CPPCC Member Urges Hong Kong Youth to Seize GBA Opportunities

In a recent corridor interview ahead of the closing meeting of the second session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, Tam Kam-kau, a member of the National Committee and chairman of HK Kwok Kim Investment Holdings Group, encouraged Hong Kong residents, particularly young people, to leverage the development opportunities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Tam shared his inspiring entrepreneurial journey in Guangdong Province, starting as a driver in the 1970s before establishing a successful restaurant along the Shenzhen-Dongguan corridor. Over three decades, his ventures expanded into diverse sectors including farming, shopping malls, and manufacturing.

Highlighting the potential within the GBA, Tam recounted the story of a young Hong Kong entrepreneur who, after completing studies in the U.S. in 2018, returned to establish an innovative farm in Dongguan. This venture integrates green products, education, and tourism, exemplifying the multifaceted opportunities available in the region.

\"The development of the country in the new era has once again provided the young people of Hong Kong with golden opportunities. I hope they can seize these opportunities firmly to achieve their dreams,\" Tam stated.

The GBA, encompassing nine cities in Guangdong along with the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, boasts a population of over 86 million as of 2022 and an economic aggregate exceeding 13 trillion yuan ($1.8 trillion). This places the GBA as a significant economic powerhouse, surpassing the economies of South Korea and Australia and ranking it as the world's 10th largest economy.

The region is well-connected through an extensive transportation network, including high-speed rail, bridges, and tunnels, facilitating seamless movement and fostering economic integration among the member cities and regions.
