Xizang Drives Rural Revival through Local Industry Innovations

Industrial prosperity forms the backbone of rural revitalization in Xizang Autonomous Region, southwest China. Leveraging its unique resources, Xizang has developed distinctive local industries such as yak farming, Tibetan medicine, and highland barley cultivation, gaining recognition both nationally and internationally.

In Damxung County of Lhasa City, the yak industry chain has been a major catalyst for increasing farmers' incomes. Through strategic investments and the establishment of new projects, the existing industry chain has been expanded and strengthened. The region has successfully registered geographical indication product and trademark protection for Damxung yak, achieving certification and enhancing its market competitiveness. This growth has attracted orders from across the country, providing a stable market for local herders.

Norbu Lhadar, a farmer in Damxung, shares his success story: \"I have earned a cumulative income of over 1.4 million yuan so far. With a stable yak market, I truly live a good life.\"

Tibetan medicine remains a cornerstone of Xizang's traditional industries. Zha Village in Nyingchi City has excelled in cultivating Himalayan mayapple and developing specialty medicinal incense, with the Suka Medicinal Incense Factory achieving annual sales of over 1 million yuan in 2023. Plans to leverage the network economy through livestreaming aim to further boost the popularity of these medicinal products.

Farmers are also diversifying into highland barley and Gastrodia cultivation in Kangmu Village, leading to increased household incomes and participation in sustainable farming practices. Similarly, the Awang sheep industry in Gongjue County, Chamdo City, has become a \"gold card\" for local economic development, employing a cooperation model that benefits both collective cooperatives and individual herders.

Deputy Director Liu Cui highlights the future ambitions: \"We will continue to promote the scientific development of the Awang sheep industry, create an industrial culture with regional characteristics, and accelerate the vigorous development of animal husbandry.\"
