Global Tourism Nears Pre-Pandemic Levels with Festive Travel Surge

Global tourism is making a significant comeback, with the United Nations' World Tourism Barometer revealing that approximately 1.3 billion people traveled internationally in 2023. This figure represents 88% of the travel levels observed before the pandemic, signaling a robust recovery in the sector.

Asian markets are expected to spearhead this resurgence, and experts project that global tourism will fully rebound by the end of 2024. A notable trend during this recovery is the rise in \"visiting relatives + traveling,\" particularly observed in the Chinese mainland during the Spring Festival.

The China Tourism Academy forecasts over 6 billion domestic trips and 6 trillion yuan in domestic tourism revenue in 2024, highlighting the importance of internal travel in sustaining the industry's growth.

In a recent discussion, CGTN's Michael Wang conversed with Zoritsa Urosevic, executive director of UN Tourism, and Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com Group, to gain their perspectives on the evolving dynamics and trends shaping the tourism industry.
