China’s 2024 GDP Goal: Achievable with Enhanced Efforts, Official Says

China's top economic official has expressed confidence in achieving the country's 2024 GDP growth target of around 5 percent. Zheng Shanjie, director of the National Development and Reform Commission, emphasized that with improved efforts, China possesses the confidence, capabilities, and conditions necessary to meet its economic and social development goals for the year.

This target aligns with the objectives outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), focusing on leveraging the growth potential and current economic conditions of China. Zheng made these remarks during a press conference held on the sidelines of the ongoing session of the national legislature.

The second session of the 14th National People's Congress is currently underway, with officials briefing both domestic and foreign media on key issues related to development and reform, financial and budget matters, commerce, and financial securities at the Media Center Hotel in Beijing.
