China is taking significant steps to make payment processes smoother for foreigners visiting the country. The People's Bank of China (PBOC) emphasized the need for coordinated efforts during a recent conference aimed at optimizing payment services.
PBOC Governor Pan Gongsheng highlighted the importance of comprehensive actions to achieve tangible results in the near future. One of the key developments is Alipay's initiative, led by Ant Group, which now allows foreigners to use their overseas bank cards through the app's international version or by scanning Alipay QR codes with their home e-wallets.
Looking ahead, Ant Group plans to address challenges that foreign visitors face when using Alipay for public transportation, such as taking subways and buses in major Chinese cities. Additionally, Chinese banks are expanding the acceptance of overseas bank cards and making it easier for foreigners to access cash while in the country.
These efforts aim to enhance the overall experience for international travelers, making China a more accessible and convenient destination.
