Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Achieve Milestones in Integrated Development Strategy

Ten years after the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated development initiative was elevated to a national strategy, the region has made remarkable strides in fostering better integration and balanced growth.

Initiated in 2014, the strategy was designed to address regional disparities and harness the collective potential of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. According to an official from the National Development and Reform Commission, the central government and relevant departments have diligently implemented the strategy through targeted actions and supportive policies across various sectors, including industry and education.

A key highlight of this initiative is the Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province, which is now entering a pivotal phase of large-scale construction. This phase includes the relocation of non-capital functions from Beijing, positioning Xiongan as a hub of innovation and growth.

Meanwhile, Beijing's urban sub-center in Tongzhou District is thriving. The relocation of over 70 municipal departments and nearly 30,000 staff members has transformed Tongzhou into a vibrant urban hub. The district is attracting residents and visitors alike with new attractions such as the Universal Beijing Resort and cultural landmarks like the Beijing Art Center, significantly enhancing the quality of life.

Economic indicators across the region reflect positive momentum. The Tianjin Binhai New Area has experienced robust growth, with Tianjin Port's container throughput reaching over 22 million TEUs in 2023. This marks a substantial increase of 58 percent compared to 2014, highlighting the area's expanding role in global trade and logistics.

Overall, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated development strategy has successfully promoted regional synergy, economic prosperity, and enhanced living standards, setting a strong foundation for future growth and innovation.
