Macao Targets Economic Diversification in the Year of the Dragon

The Chief Executive of Macao SAR, Ho Iat Seng, announced on Friday that Macao is set to make significant strides in economic diversification during the Year of the Dragon. In his Chinese New Year message, Ho highlighted Macao's impressive recovery from the pandemic in the previous Year of the Rabbit and its ongoing robust development.

Looking forward, Ho stated, \"We will meet the phased goals laid out in the Master Plan of the Development of the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin at a faster pace and prioritize the growth of the Cooperation Zone.\" He emphasized that increased efforts will be made to enhance external exchanges, enabling Macao to better integrate into the national development framework.

Zheng Xincong, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, marked this year as the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland. Zheng expressed optimism about Macao's role in national development, leveraging its unique advantages to foster exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations. He also extended well wishes for the well-being of Macao residents.

Liu Xianfa, commissioner of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macao SAR, commended the SAR's Chief Executive and government for their leadership in achieving remarkable results across various sectors in the past year. In his new year message, Liu pledged that the foreign affairs office will fully support Macao in governing according to law, actively expand foreign exchanges and cooperation, and diligently implement the objectives of \"diplomacy for the people\" and \"diplomacy for Macao\" to serve the SAR effectively.
