Spring Festival Ignites China’s Year of Consumption Promotion

The Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese Lunar New Year, stands as the most significant celebration in Chinese culture. This holiday season is marked by family reunions, gift exchanges, and a plethora of traditional activities that foster a sense of community and festivity.

In 2024, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has designated the year as the \"Year of Consumption Promotion.\" This initiative aims to capitalize on the festive spirit to drive consumption across various sectors, including food and beverages, clothing, entertainment, and travel. The Spring Festival, lasting from February 10 to February 17 this year, is expected to play a pivotal role in this promotional push.

To fully leverage the consumption potential, both private and public sectors are encouraged to offer culturally rich products and engaging activities. This includes the introduction of themed experiential events that blend festivals, exhibitions, competitions, and performances. Dynamic consumption scenarios are being created in neighborhoods, commercial districts, parks, and scenic areas to provide immersive consumer experiences.

Given that 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, dragon-themed products and activities are being prominently featured in cultural festivals and events. Additionally, nearly 500 'Happy Spring Festival' activities are set to take place in nearly 100 countries and regions worldwide, enhancing the global visibility of local event brands.

Ensuring the safety and convenience of consumers is a top priority. Efforts include strengthening road network monitoring, enhancing public transportation services, and extending the operating hours of museums, art galleries, and other cultural venues. Consumer rights are also being protected through accessible complaint channels during the festival period.

With consumers becoming more price-sensitive and seeking value for money, promotional initiatives such as consumer vouchers, discounts, and free admissions are being launched in collaboration with businesses. These measures aim to stimulate a significant increase in consumer spending, making the Spring Festival a key driver of economic activity in 2024.
