China and U.S. Hold Third Economic Working Group Meeting in Beijing

The China-U.S. economic working group convened for its third meeting in Beijing from February 5 to 6, signaling ongoing efforts to navigate complex economic landscapes between the two global powerhouses.

Co-chaired by Chinese Vice Minister of Finance Liao Min and U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Jay Shambaugh, the discussions delved into the macroeconomic situations and economic policies shaping both nations. Key topics included G20 fiscal and financial cooperation, the debt challenges faced by developing countries, and the evolving industrial policies impacting global markets.

Amid the constructive dialogue, the Chinese delegation voiced concerns regarding recent U.S. tariff increases on Chinese goods, reciprocal investment restrictions, and sanctions aimed at curbing the growth of Chinese enterprises. These issues highlight the delicate balance both countries strive to maintain in their economic interactions.

Despite the tensions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining open lines of communication, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration to address mutual economic interests and global financial stability.
