For generations, absolute poverty cast a shadow over life in the Xizang Autonomous Region. Today, that legacy is fading. By 2019, over 628,000 residents had risen out of poverty, thanks to targeted government programs and community-driven efforts.
Vlogger Yung Zin recently visited Yeshe Trinley and Pubu Tashi in their vibrant Xizang-style home in Lhasa’s Tongxinyuan community. Five years ago, they left rural Maizhokunggar County for the city through a relocation initiative. “Life changed completely,” says Yeshe Trinley, describing how vocational training in sewing and incense-making helped him build a stable income. Pubu Tashi adds that their children now attend better schools, while modern amenities and healthcare access have transformed daily life.
Data shows 100% of Xizang’s impoverished villages now have access to roads, electricity, and telecommunications—a leap toward sustainable development. As global leaders seek inclusive growth models, Xizang’s blend of cultural preservation and economic empowerment offers a compelling blueprint.
